Ablakwa represents Ghana at Cabo Verde’s 50th independence celebration

North Tongu MP and Ranking Member on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has shared highlights of his participation in the 50th independence anniversary of Cabo Verde, representing President John Dramani Mahama and the Republic of Ghana.

Ablakwa described the experience as a “profound honour,” stating that being part of such a historic celebration was both moving and humbling in a Facebook post reflecting on the event, as sighted by MyNewsGh.

“It has been a profound honour representing President John Mahama and our great nation at the 50th independence anniversary of the beautiful archipelagic Republic of Cabo Verde yesterday,” he wrote.

Ablakwa also used the occasion to draw attention to Ghana’s enduring historical ties with Cabo Verde, particularly the pivotal role Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah played in supporting Amílcar Lopes Cabral, the renowned freedom fighter who led the liberation struggles of Guinea-Bissau and Cabo Verde from Portuguese colonial rule.

“The eloquent reminder of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah’s inspiration and his direct support for the legendary freedom fighter, Amílcar Lopes Cabral, was both a moving and proud experience,” Ablakwa noted.

He concluded by referencing one of Nkrumah’s most iconic quotes:

“We prefer self-government with danger to servitude in tranquility.”
