Ablakwa takes steps to ensure Ghana is not affected by impending US visa ban

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has met with the Secretary for Political Affairs, Allison M. Hooker and Ambassador Troy Damian Fitrell of the Bureau for African Affairs upon his visit to the United States of America.
In June, reports were rife that the United States of America was considering placing a visa ban on Ghana.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, at a press conference, confirmed that the country is currently on a U.S. visa ban watchlist due to a high rate of student visa overstays.
Upon his visit to the United States of America, the Minister used the opportunity to meet the Secretary for Political Affairs, Allison M. Hooker and Ambassador Troy Damian Fitrell of the Bureau for African Affairs where among other things discussed is the much-talked-about impending US visa ban on Ghana.
The minister, in a post shared via social media on his visit, assured the people of Ghana that the John Dramani Mahama-led government is doing all it can to ensure that Ghana is not part of the ban.
“President Mahama’s government is determined to take all necessary and strategic steps consistent with our national interest in ensuring that Ghana is not affected by the much-talked-about impending US visa ban,” he stated.
He is hopeful that the meeting will yield the needed results for Ghanaians.
