Building for the future is our focus – Black Queens coach

Newly appointed Black Queens Head Coach, Kim Lars Björkegren, has emphasized his focus on building for the future as he prepares for his first official match with the team.

Ghana’s senior women’s national team will face Morocco in a friendly match on Friday in Casablanca, as part of their preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

In a pre-match interview with the Ghana Football Association media team, the Swedish tactician acknowledged the challenge of playing away from home against the North African giants, but stressed that his primary objective is to lay the foundation for long-term success.

“Morocco is a good team with a lot of talent. Playing away from home will be a challenge, especially with our new coaching staff and players. But we’re focused on building for the long term, learning from our mistakes, and preparing for the summer tournament. We’ll work hard to win, but we’re also looking at the bigger picture.”

The friendly match against Morocco will serve as a valuable test for the Black Queens, who missed out on participating in any friendly matches during the last international window. The team will also face AS FAR Rabat, providing additional preparation for the WAFCON in June.

The match against Morocco is scheduled to take place at 17:00 at the Pere Jego Stadium in Casablanca on Friday. Coach Kim Lars Björkegren will be in the dugout for the first time, and his approach will be closely watched as he begins his tenure with the Black Queens.
