Accra, Tema, Madina among areas to be hit by afternoon storm

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued an impact-based weather warning, cautioning the public of an incoming moderate rainstorm expected to sweep across various parts of the country between 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. today, Monday, May 20.
According to GMet, the storm system, currently moving westward from Benin and Togo, is likely to affect the coastal, middle, transition, and northern sectors of Ghana with increased cloudiness, thunderstorms, and potential rainfall.
Gusty winds are expected to precede the storms, possibly resulting in poor visibility and flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas.
The affected areas and expected times include:
- Volta, Oti, Eastern, and Northern regions (2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.)
- Aflao, Keta, Ada, and surrounding towns (3:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.)
- Western, Western North, Ashanti, Bono East, Upper West, and Savannah regions (4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.)
- Greater Accra, including Tema, Ashaiman, Accra, and Madina (4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.)
Residents, especially those in flood-prone or low-lying areas, are advised to take precautions to protect life and property.
GMet also warned of dangerous driving conditions due to poor visibility and slippery roads during the storm period.
The public is encouraged to stay updated with official weather alerts and follow the advice of local authorities and emergency services.
