I am sincerely sorry for the pain my comments caused — Kofi Akpaloo

Kofi Akpaloo has apologized following controversial comments about the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives in the Adansi Akrofuom District on August 6, 2025.
The Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) founder and leader expressed deep regret for the pain his earlier remarks caused families and the public.
“I am not happy at all, and I feel terrible that my comments caused pain to many people and families. I am sincerely sorry and ask for their forgiveness,” he said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.
Akpaloo clarified that his words came from a place of grief and frustration over the frequent loss of lives in Ghana.
“My brother Omane Boamah is not someone I can betray. I was devastated when I heard of his passing. My reaction came from the pain of knowing that people are dying almost every day in this country, and we seem to have normalised it,” he explained.
He highlighted the ongoing tragedy of road accidents and other causes of death that continue to affect many, especially children, but often go unacknowledged.
“We have lost many through road accidents, and yet we don’t value lives enough. That frustration and sorrow are what came out in my words,” Akpaloo added.
Earlier, the politician had stirred controversy by stating that there was “nothing gloomy” about the helicopter tragedy, insisting that deaths occur daily across the country, including those of children, and suggesting that the crash victims’ deaths were not uniquely tragic.
Following the backlash, Akpaloo took to the airwaves to clarify his stance and apologize, emphasizing his respect for the victims and their families while calling for a greater appreciation of life in Ghana.
