Action, not a state of emergency, is needed in the fight against galamsey—Elikem Kotoko

A Deputy Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Elikem Kotoko has indicated that the coming weeks will come with deployments in the fight against galamsey.

He says the fight against galamsey is a war against environmental degradation and therefore needs resolute actions.

Elikem Kotoko, however, is against the calls for a state of emergency to be declared in the fight against the menace.

He believes that concrete actions and steps are what are imperative at the juncture.

His post shared via social media read, “Coming days will witness heavy deployments. The fight against galamsey is a war against environmental degradation. Action and not State of Emergency”.

Meanwhile, the government has announced that military deployments will be used henceforth in the fight against illegal mining, known popularly as galamsey.
