Adomako Baafi Defends Bawumia’s Apology Over NPP’s Past Mistakes

Deputy Communications Team Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi, has defended Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent apology to Ghanaians over some mistakes made by the governing party.
Speaking on Okay FM’s “Ade Akye Abia” with host Ohenenana Kwame Amoh, Adomako Baafi said there was “nothing wrong” with the Vice President showing humility and acknowledging the party’s errors, describing it as a mature and strategic political gesture.
He explained that in politics, expressing remorse helps rebuild public trust and strengthen a leader’s connection with the people.
“Former Presidents Akufo-Addo and Mahama have both apologised to Ghanaians at various times and were still trusted by voters to lead again. It is a sign of responsibility, not weakness,” he noted.
He also drew parallels from the Toyota crisis in the United States some years ago, when the car manufacturer’s owner publicly apologised to restore consumer confidence after a major recall.
“In crisis management, there is a stage where rendering an apology is the best option for leadership. It’s part of a process known as mortification, admitting mistakes and showing a commitment to do better,” he added.
His comments come in response to remarks reportedly made by Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, who questioned the political wisdom of Dr. Bawumia’s apology.
Adomako Baafi maintained that humility and accountability remain vital traits in leadership and that acknowledging past shortcomings could help the NPP reconnect with Ghanaians ahead of the 2026 elections
