Adwoa Safo laments lack of coordination over Disciplinary Committee no-show

Former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what she describes as poor handling of internal disciplinary proceedings, after showing up for a scheduled committee hearing only to discover that it had not been convened.
Speaking to the media at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Monday, April 7, the former Deputy Majority Leader expressed her disappointment at the absence of the committee, despite receiving a formal summons.
“As a party, we need to take these matters more seriously,” Safo stated. “I came here ready for the committee meeting, but now I find myself in a situation where there’s no hearing, no committee, and no explanation. This could have been handled much more effectively.”
Safo had been summoned over remarks she made concerning the NPP’s performance in the 2024 elections, which the party viewed as potentially damaging and a violation of its internal communication code. Her appearance was expected to be part of a formal inquiry by the Disciplinary Committee.
However, the absence of any sitting committee members upon her arrival left Safo visibly frustrated. She questioned the party’s communication and procedural lapses, pointing out that a simple call or direct message could have averted the confusion.
“I was served the summons and prepared myself to respond. If plans had changed, there was ample opportunity to inform me personally. Some of the party leaders have my contact information,” she remarked.
The incident has sparked conversations about the internal workings of the ruling party, with many questioning the effectiveness of its disciplinary processes and the respect accorded to senior members.
Safo, a three-time MP and former minister, emphasized that the party must uphold fairness and transparency in handling such sensitive matters to preserve its integrity.
