Afenyo-Markin slams Asiedu Nketiah for using Parliament for campaign photoshoot

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has taken a swipe at the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, accusing him of turning Parliament into a campaign ground as he allegedly seeks to succeed former President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking during parliamentary proceedings on Friday, Afenyo-Markin alleged that Asiedu Nketiah entered the chamber of Parliament during a brief suspension of sitting to pose for photographs with Members of Parliament on the Minority side — an act he believes was politically motivated.

“Mr Speaker, you suspended the House for five minutes, and during that period, our colleagues allowed their National Chairman to enter the chamber to take pictures as part of his campaign, having garnered the support of the NDC MPs,” Afenyo-Markin said.

He went further to state that the act was not just casual, but strategic and indicative of an internal ambition within the NDC to position Asiedu Nketiah as Mahama’s successor.

“The National Chairman of the NDC, who has declared his intention to succeed President Mahama, entered the chamber.

“Mr Speaker, 60 NDC MPs initially took pictures with him. I am told that number later rose to 80,” he claimed.

While lacing his concerns with a tinge of sarcasm, the Minority Leader added:

“Mr Speaker, I want the Chairman to know that the 80 is not enough, he should get more to make him the preferred candidate. But Mr Speaker, to conclude, I want to know whether the rules of this House allow such actions.”
