Akwatia by-election is a test of IGP Yohuno’s credibility—Kwame Asumadu

Parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akwatia Constituency, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, has sent a barrage of stern warnings to the Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, ahead of the September 2, 2025, by-election.

Solomon Kwame Asumadu says the police should not fail in their duty to protect the peace and sanity in the Akwatia Constituency.

He contends that the election and its peacefulness will be a test of the police chief’s integrity and credibility.

“I believe that the IGP will ensure a peaceful election on 2nd September. Ensuring a peaceful election will help boost his credibility. But if he does not ensure that we have a peaceful election, then he will become the worst Police IGP the country has had,” he said while addressing a charged crowd of party faithful after a unity walk held on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

On his part, the Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jeff Konadu, urged constituents to step out in their numbers on election day to ensure that they maintain the seat for the party.

He allayed their fears, indicating that no one would foment violence on the election day.

Development In Akwatia

Solomon Kwame Asumadu noted that the late member of parliament, Ernest Kumi, had the development of the constituency at heart, and that is what he will ensure when voted into power.

He described himself as the Joshua of the time and will ensure that whatever Ernest Kumi wanted for the Akwatia constituency, he will ensure that he works hard to ensure that height and more is reached and achieved.

“I am the Joshua of our time. I knew Ernest Kumi prioritized the development of the constituency, and that is exactly what I intend to continue. Just as Moses could not reach the promised land and Joshua had to take over, I will take over and ensure that the Akwatia constituency develops. I will not wait for Common Fund but will ensure that prosperity is the forte of the people of Akwatia,” he said.
