All things being equal, he’ll be home today — Appiah-Kubi on Wontumi’s release

After days of legal back-and-forth, relief may finally be in sight for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

His lead counsel, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has confirmed that all necessary bail requirements have been met, paving the way for his client’s release.

Mr. Appiah-Kubi disclosed that the only pending detail is the transfer of Wontumi’s passport from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to the registrar of the court, a process expected to be completed today, October 10, 2025.

“We have met all the bail conditions, except the transfer of his passport from EOCO to the registrar of the court.

“The officials at EOCO have assured us they’ll deliver them tomorrow. So, barring any last-minute hitches, we’ll secure his release in the morning,” he said confidently.

Wontumi’s release marks the latest development in a case that has drawn significant public attention. His lawyer expressed optimism that his client would soon return home to his family and supporters, stressing that all other procedural obligations had been satisfied.

“We don’t anticipate any further delays,” Mr. Appiah-Kubi added, emphasizing that the legal team had worked closely with the relevant institutions to meet every condition required by the court.
