Alleged drug kingpin busted at Amasaman gym after weeks on the run

Geoffrey Agbi, the man suspected to be the mastermind behind a drug trafficking ring disguised as a gym business, is finally in custody.

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) confirmed his arrest on Friday, May 30, 2025, following a targeted surveillance operation.

Agbi, who had been on the run since April, was picked up around 6:20 p.m. in his inner office at the gym located within the Kuntunse Spirit Filling Station near Amasaman.

“Several substances suspected to be illicit drugs were found and retrieved from his office,” NACOC disclosed in a press release on Saturday.

His arrest comes weeks after an earlier raid by NACOC on April 14, during which five suspects, including gym instructors Elvis Owusu Yeboah and Nigerian national Joseph Godsway, were arrested. At the time, Agbi managed to slip away, prompting NACOC to place him on its wanted list.

Authorities say further monitoring revealed that Agbi had quietly resumed operations at the gym and had brought in new personnel to keep his alleged drug network alive.

His eventual arrest, officials believe, is a breakthrough in their efforts to dismantle what they describe as a deeply rooted local drug operation.

He is currently in detention and assisting with investigations. NACOC says it remains committed to tracking down every individual linked to the illicit network.
