Amanda Clinton Urges Judicial Reform After Controversial Chief Justice Removal

Amanda Clinton, Esq., Head of Chambers at Clinton Consultancy, has urged Ghana’s judiciary to take decisive steps to safeguard its integrity following the controversial removal of the Chief Justice.
Clinton emphasized the need for reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“So although this is going back and forth, I think the judiciary have to stand tall in setting a bar to this and making sure it’s not repeated,” she said in an interview on Joy Prime monitored by MyNewsGh.
She suggested that an amendment to Article 146 could provide a structural solution. “Perhaps having an amendment for Article 146… we also do have to remember the Chief Justice is equal to the President in terms of separation of powers,” Clinton explained.
Reflecting on the manner in which the Chief Justice was removed, she remarked, “The way she was just dismissed and removed… it could have been done better. And we can’t say she should have retired because she knew this was coming sort of thing.”
Clinton further stressed the importance of maintaining public trust in the judiciary, particularly in a politically polarized environment.
“All we can do is to remember the sanctity of the judiciary, remember the amendment of Article 146, and that as much as the NPP and NDC keep on fighting in public, and as much as to the judiciary seems like it’s not singing to one voice, all this leads to is poor public confidence,” she said.
