Amidu Accuses Special Prosecutor of Dishonesty Over SML Case

Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has accused the current head of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Kissi Agyebeng, of dishonesty and deliberate misrepresentation regarding investigations into the controversial Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) contracts with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
In an opinion piece available to MyNewsGh, Amidu described Agyebeng as “pathologically dishonest” and “unfit for office,” claiming his recent comments on The KSM Show were inconsistent with official records of the OSP.
Amidu argued that Agyebeng’s attempt to attribute the office’s inability to question or charge former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to non-cooperation from state security agencies and the previous government was deceptive.
According to Amidu, the OSP’s own half-year report released on December 31, 2024, showed no evidence that Ofori-Atta or any individual had been treated as a suspect during that period.
Citing the same report, Amidu noted that the OSP’s full investigation into the SML-GRA deal only began after a review of KPMG’s audit findings in March 2024, with no mention of obstruction by the government or security agencies.
“The OSP had no legal basis to seek assistance from any government agency to stop Ken Ofori-Atta from leaving the country,” Amidu stated, accusing Agyebeng of fabricating excuses to justify investigative lapses.
He maintained that the OSP’s next half-yearly report, dated July 31, 2025, clearly showed that Ofori-Atta was first contacted as a suspect on January 24, 2025—weeks after he had already left Ghana.
Amidu said this discrepancy exposed “a disturbing pattern of dishonesty” and questioned whether the Special Prosecutor could be trusted with handling sensitive investigations.
