Application refused by court – Wontumi’s lawyer on Paradise Insurance case

The Accra High Court has dismissed an application filed by Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, seeking to lift a freezing order placed on the bank account of one of his companies, Paradise Insurance.
The application challenged a decision by the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) to freeze the company’s account as part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities linked to Wontumi and related entities.
After hearing the matter, the court refused the request, effectively maintaining the restriction on the account, and subsequently adjourned the case sine die.
Speaking to the media shortly after the proceedings, Wontumi’s lawyer confirmed the outcome and explained the scope of the application before the court.
“Today’s case is in respect of one of Chairman’s companies, Paradise Insurance, and it was in respect of the freezing of the accounts of the company,” he said.
“We applied for the freezing order to be set aside and it’s been adjourned.”
When asked to clarify the court’s decision, counsel stated that the application had not succeeded.
“The application was refused by the court, so that’ll be all for today,” he said, adding that the legal team would provide updates as other related matters progress.
“Subsequently, we’ll update you on other precedents.”
Chairman Wontumi had argued that the freezing order was unjustified and sought the court’s intervention to overturn the FIC’s directive.
The court, however, found no sufficient basis at this stage to grant the reliefs being sought.
