Appointment Committee Chairman is not weak – Suhuyini

Despite the perception that the Chairman of the Appointment Committee of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, is being bullied and disrespected by the Minority Leader and Ranking Member of the Committee, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Tamale North legislator, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini believes otherwise.
Speaking exclusively on 3FM Morning Show with Johnnie Hughes on January 6, the three-term legislator and broadcast journalist argued that “the Chairman of the appointment committee may seem very liberal but if you understand his leadership style, you will appreciate him.”
Bernard Ahiafor has recently been under public scrutiny and described as weak and easily frustrated by some members of the Committee. Rating the Chairman’s performance, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini stated that “Bernard Ahiafor has generally been fairly good, but it could’ve been better.”
Parliament on January 8, 2025, approved the composition of its Appointments Committee, which is tasked with vetting and recommending nominees for ministerial and other key appointments. The Committee is chaired by the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah serving as Vice Chairperson.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, is the Ranking Member, while Patricia Appiagyei serves as the Deputy Ranking Member.
Since its first sitting to vet President Mahama’s ministerial nominees, it has been characterized by unnecessary disagreements and chaos, with many Ghanaians accusing the Chair of being “over-tolerant” and “inexperienced”.
