April Fool’s wedding? Actor Harold Amenyah explains why he said ‘I do’ on April 1st

Ghanaian actor Harold Amenyah has finally shared the behind-the-scenes details of his much-talked-about wedding—and yes, it was as exclusive as it looked.

Speaking during a cooking show on UTV on April 13, 2025, Harold revealed that the ceremony was strictly private. Phones were banned, and only 100 guests—mainly family and close friends—were invited. Even the entertainment industry crowd didn’t make the cut.

“My wedding was very private, no phones were allowed. It was boldly written at the entrance,” he shared.

Despite the no-phone policy, a picture from the wedding still managed to leak and quickly went viral. According to Harold, the now-famous photo was snapped by someone who disregarded the clear rules.

“The first picture that started trending that day was taken by a guest who was clearly told phones weren’t allowed. But they still decided to take pictures and videos,” he said, visibly amused yet disappointed.

He noted how intimate the event was: “The event was for just 100 people, including family, so you can imagine how small and intimate it was. If I had known a picture would be leaked and we’d end up trending, I would have invited everyone.”

The viral photo created a buzz not just because of its content, but because of the mystery surrounding the bride, who had managed to stay off the public radar until then.

“We’ve still not found the person who leaked the picture. I suspect the person just wanted to prove they were there and probably posted it on WhatsApp. I think it trended more because the wedding was private—people were curious,” he explained.

Harold also opened up about why they chose to keep it so low-key, revealing that it was his wife’s idea.

“It was my wife’s decision to make the wedding private. She didn’t fully realize the kind of pressure that comes with marrying a public figure. The controversy surrounding the wedding made her understand the magnitude of what she’s stepping into.”

And in a sweet twist, he disclosed they tied the knot exactly one year after they met—on April 1st, a date that raised eyebrows because it fell on April Fool’s Day.

“I met my wife a year before we got married. We got married on the same date we met. Some people questioned why we chose April 1, April Fool’s Day, but that was our anniversary. Before that, I had been single for about three years,” he said.

Reflecting on how things unfolded, Harold admitted it wasn’t ideal but was perhaps destined.

“My wife’s picture started trending around 3 p.m., just after the ceremony. We hadn’t even released any official photos yet. We had to quickly call our photographer to release the pictures for damage control. Since phones weren’t allowed, whoever took that photo must’ve done it secretly, so of course, it wasn’t the best quality. But in the end, I believe everything that happened was meant to happen.”
