Are you not worried? – Manasseh flags procedural gaps in AB Adjei case

Manasseh Azure Awuni has raised serious concerns about the transparency and conduct of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in the prosecution of AB Adjei.

In a detailed open letter to activist Stephen Kwaku Asare, Awuni questioned why certain charges were dropped and investigations into Adjei’s assets remain incomplete.

“Another concern I raised was that the OSP under Martin Amidu reported unusual cash payments into AB Adjei’s bank accounts… Why has the OSP failed to trace AB Adjei’s assets?” he asked.

He also noted delays in the Special Prosecutor’s responses, saying, “He promised to respond to my concerns about the case in two weeks. After two weeks, he came back and did not have answers. A month later, he said he could not give timelines.”

Awuni highlighted procedural irregularities, including reliance on his evidence as a journalist and repeated cross-examinations without addressing his questions.

“If you were put in the witness box and cross-examined by two sets of lawyers for a year and a half, and the case was dropped, and you were asked to go through it all over again, would you submit yourself without your questions being addressed?” he wrote.

He expressed frustration at the downgrading of a key charge from direct to indirect influence in procurement.

“I did not complain about the other charges that were dropped. That is the SPECIFIC charge I sought an explanation for. Ask the OSP why it dropped that charge. I have sought and not received an answer,” he said.

Awuni concluded that without satisfactory explanations, he will withhold further testimony, emphasising accountability and transparency as essential for the prosecution.
