Asanko Gold Ghana speaks on deadly clash at Mpatoam site

Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. has issued a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the violent incident that occurred at its concession near Mpatoam in the Amansie South District on September 9, 2025.

According to the company, the unrest stemmed from a confrontation between military personnel and community members around its operating concessions.

Asanko explained that the military presence in the area was part of a state-mandated security intervention, coordinated through the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

“Tensions escalated within the local community, leading to civil unrest, an attack on the military camps and an invasion of the mining operational areas.

“These events led to a fatality and significant damages to contractor equipment,” the statement said.

The company expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. “The Company shares in the community’s grief over the tragic loss of life and extends its heartfelt condolences to the affected families during this difficult time,” it added.

Asanko also stressed that it is engaging all relevant stakeholders to resolve the matter.

“Asanko is working closely with local authorities, government officials, and community leaders to address the situation.

“The Company remains committed to maintaining constructive dialogue with all stakeholders as investigations proceed,” management said.
