With sadness and pain the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally confirmed the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the Asanteman Council held today August 11th, 2025 at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Born Nana Ama Konadu , the Asantehemaa was the paramount Queen Mother of the Ashanti (Asante) Kingdom in Ghana.
The late Asantehemaa was not merely the Asantehene’s (King’s) mother, but was a powerful political and spiritual figure in her own right, selected from the royal Oyoko clan based on lineage and character.
Her position was crucial to the matrilineal succession system, as she nominates candidates for the Asantehene stool.
She also served as a key advisor to the King on governance, tradition, and justice, presiding over her own court.

The cause of Asantehemaa’s death is not yet known to the public. She might have died from natural causes. She was 91 years.
