Ashanti Regional Minister gives illegal miners 2-week ultimatum to vacate forest reserves, water bodies

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has given a stern warning to illegal miners operating in forest reserves and water bodies within the Ashanti Region.

He has warned them to vacate the areas or face the full force of the law.

This move is part of the government’s efforts to curb the devastating effects of illegal mining, also known as galamsey, which has ravaged many parts of the country.

“The operation has led to widespread deforestation, pollution of water bodies, and destruction of farmlands. The government’s ultimatum is a clear indication of its commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable development.  It’s essential for illegal miners to heed the warning and vacate the areas to avoid any legal consequences,” the Regional Minister said on February 6.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, made this known when he engaged with the Kumasi media to discuss the roadmap for the region’s development this afternoon.

Areas covered included infrastructure, economic growth, and unemployment, Kumasi Asante Kotoko-Nsoatreman clash, Obuasi killings etc.

Dr. Amoakohene has been known for his commitment to promoting good governance and engaging with the people of the region.
