Assemblies of God calls for lasting support for families of helicopter crash victims

Assemblies of God, Ghana has urged the government to establish a permanent support scheme and award packages for the dependants of the eight distinguished Ghanaians who perished in last Wednesday’s helicopter crash at Adansi Brofoyedu in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Rev. Dr Ernest Birikorang, the church said such a gesture would honour the victims’ “supreme sacrifice” and underscore that “Ghana is indeed worth dying for.”

The statement paid tribute to the eight, describing their passing as “heart-breaking, soul-wrenching and a reminder of the brevity of life,” while encouraging families to find comfort in Psalm 147:3: “The Lord heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

The victims included Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah; Environment, Science and Technology Minister Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna; NDC Vice-Chairman Samuel Sarpong; Obuasi East parliamentary candidate and NADMO Deputy Coordinator Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah.

The tragedy has prompted other institutions to offer help. The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC is considering an endowment fund for the victims’ children, while the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has begun reviewing records to ensure all eligible dependants receive their benefits without delay.

Assemblies of God expressed hope that the unity shown in the wake of the tragedy will bind the nation together beyond political, social, and religious lines. “May their souls rest in perfect peace,” the church said.
