Assemblies of God church cancels wedding after bride refuses pre-marriage protocol

A wedding at the Assemblies of God Church, Okpu 2, in Aba, Abia State, took an unexpected turn when the church leadership cancelled the ceremony on the very day it was scheduled to be held.
According to reports, the decision followed the bride’s refusal to comply with one of the church’s pre-wedding requirements — spending the night before the ceremony in the home of the host pastor and his wife.
This tradition, according to church members, is intended to provide final counselling from the pastor’s wife before the wedding day.
In addition to that requirement, the church reportedly also mandates a pregnancy test for brides prior to officiating the marriage.
Promise Uzoma Okoro, an eyewitness who shared the account, confirmed that the couple’s plans were upended on the morning of their big day.
“The bride’s refusal to stay at the parsonage, as required, prompted church authorities to cancel the wedding,” Okoro said. “Guests had already assembled for the event when the announcement was made.”
While the church has not publicly commented, reactions have been mixed, with some supporting the church’s stance on discipline, while others question the necessity and timing of such procedures.
