At this trying time, I pray for your release — Eezee Tee speaks out as Mercy Chinwo faces backlash over VDM’s arrest

Just when the dust seemed to be settling on the arrest of social commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM), a new wave of drama has hit the headlines—this time dragging gospel sensation Mercy Chinwo and her husband into the storm.
Former record label executive and Mercy Chinwo’s ex-manager, Eezee Tee, has broken his silence in the heat of the controversy. While he didn’t point fingers, his message struck a chord with many who believe VDM’s arrest may have deeper roots than initially reported.
“No one can dispute his contributions by a given voice to the voiceless and amplifying the concerns of the have-nots.
“At this trying time, I pray for your safety and release,” Eezee Tee shared, referring to VDM, whose online presence has been both revered and resented for its bold critiques.
VDM is currently in police custody, and though official reasons remain vague, speculations online suggest his past remarks about the strained relationship between Mercy Chinwo and Eezee Tee could be a factor.
Things took another turn when Nollywood producer Stanley Ontop revealed Mercy Chinwo and her husband blocked him after he privately urged them to support VDM’s release.
“Mercy Chinwo blocked me on IG last night because I told her and her husband to free VDM,” Stanley claimed in a post.
“It’s laughable how a minister of God would just block me for saying the truth. Next, they will use police to harass me now, watch.”
Though Mercy Chinwo has not issued a public response, social media has erupted with divided opinions. While some defend her silence, others question what they see as an overreaction—or worse, complicity.
VeryDarkMan has long been a polarizing figure, known for calling out public figures with an unapologetically sharp tongue.
But love or hate him, his current predicament is fast becoming a flashpoint in Nigeria’s ongoing debate about freedom of speech, power, and the influence of faith-based celebrities.
