Ato Forson, Armah Buah assigned additional portfolios after ministers’ death

The Presidency has announced that Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah have been appointed to take on additional ministerial responsibilities following the tragic demise of two ministers in a helicopter crash.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 7, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama directed the Finance Minister, Dr. Ato Forson, to take on the role of Defence Minister.
Similarly, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Buah, has been tasked to act as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
This decision, according to the release signed by Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, follows the fatal helicopter crash that claimed the lives of the substantive Ministers for Defence and Environment, Science and Technology. The crash occurred while they were en route to an official event in Obuasi.
The appointments are to take effect immediately and remain in place until further notice.
