Ato Forson welcomes IMF team for fifth review

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has opened Ghana’s Fifth Review under the IMF-Supported Programme, welcoming a visiting mission team led by Dr. Ruben Atoyan to Accra.
The review, a key step ahead of the programme’s conclusion in May 2026, will determine whether Ghana qualifies for its next disbursement of USD 360 million in October.
It also serves as a test of the country’s fiscal credibility as IMF oversight begins to ease.
Reflecting on the economic trajectory since January, Dr. Ato Forson noted that 2025 began with significant hurdles but said “government interventions and collective national effort have steadied the tide and delivered notable progress.”
He cautioned, however, that some risks persist and pledged the government’s commitment to tackle them.
He described the review as “an important opportunity to assess our progress under the programme and benefit from the IMF’s feedback.”
IMF mission chief Dr. Ruben Atoyan expressed optimism about the process, indicating the Fund’s readiness for constructive engagements in the days ahead.
The meeting brought together key economic figures, including Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama, First Deputy Governor Dr. Zakari Mumuni, and Finance Ministry Chief Director Dr. Patrick Nomo.
