Attorney General Only Doing His Job, Not Convicting Anyone – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Minister for Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of intentionally creating distractions to derail the government’s anti-corruption drive.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story, he argued that the NPP’s persistent criticisms of the Attorney General’s work are aimed at undermining legitimate efforts to ensure accountability.
“The Attorney General, whose name they often mention to create the impression that he has done something extraordinary, has merely stated that, based on investigations, there is evidence suggesting that an individual may have violated the law,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said.
He clarified that referring cases to court is part of standard legal procedure and not proof of guilt.
“On that basis, the person is taken to court. This is standard legal procedure and does not amount to a conviction,” he explained.
The minister emphasized that the NPP’s attempts to politicize legal processes are misleading and intended to sway public opinion.
“It is for this reason that, after the Attorney General’s announcement, nobody goes to prison immediately,” he added, stressing that due process must always take its course.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further described the NPP’s behaviour as a calculated effort to derail government business.
“The noises that the NPP are making are designed solely to stop the government from doing the things that meet the expectations of the people of Ghana,” he said.
According to him, the government remains focused on its mission to promote transparency and accountability.
“This includes holding to account those who have mismanaged the nation’s finances, caused losses, or engaged in acts that amount to corruption,” he concluded.
