Ayine’s briefing is the most dishonest I’ve ever read – Martin Amidu

Martin Amidu has sharply criticised Attorney-General Dominic Ayine’s justification for dropping charges in the Republic v. Kwabena Duffour & 7 Others case, describing his explanation as “the most dishonourable and dishonest brief” he has encountered in his decades-long legal career.
The Former Special Prosecutor said he delayed publishing his response in anticipation of a promised explanation by the Attorney-General, which was delivered on Monday, July 28, 2025, in a nine-page press briefing.
The briefing, according to Ayine, aimed to provide “further details” on his controversial decision to enter a nolle prosequi — a legal procedure to discontinue prosecution — in the high-profile case involving former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and others.
“I have read and re-read the written brief of the Attorney-General several times,” Amidu stated in an open letter available to MyNewsGh.
“I have no doubt in my mind that it is the most dishonourable and dishonest brief intended for the public I have ever come across… in my entire career as a lawyer and a public officer.”
At the heart of Amidu’s outrage is what he describes as a fundamental ethical breach — the Attorney-General’s failure to disclose his previous role as legal counsel for Dr. Duffuor and his company, HODA Holdings, in the same case he later discontinued.
“John Dramani Mahama’s Attorney-General exhibited the worst dishonourable reputational trait of an Attorney-General in taking the electorate and Ghanaians for granted,” Amidu wrote.
“He did not acknowledge and explain the ethical fact that he was a lawyer for Kwabena Duffour… before he was appointed Attorney-General.”
