Baseless and politically driven – MP slams Minority calls for Gyamfi’s suspension

Member of Parliament for Lambussie, Prof. Titus Beyuo, has rejected growing calls for the suspension of Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, following public outrage over a viral video involving controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa.

In the video, Gyamfi is seen handing what appears to be U.S. dollars to Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa—a former fetish priestess turned self-styled evangelist.

The footage, which quickly circulated on social media, ignited backlash from various quarters, including the Minority in Parliament, who demanded his immediate suspension.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Prof. Beyuo pushed back against the demands, describing them as “baseless” and “politically driven.”

He argued that although the optics of the incident were questionable, they did not constitute a legal or procedural offense.

“He has recognised that with what he did, even though it was not a crime, it doesn’t inure to be good for the government, to the person who appointed me, and to the people I am serving, which is why he called that indiscretion,” Prof. Beyuo explained, referencing Gyamfi’s own admission that the gesture was ill-advised.

While acknowledging that the act might not sit well with the public or reflect positively on the administration, Beyuo emphasized that it does not fall within any listed offenses that warrant disciplinary action.

“But I am saying that the offenses listed under which specific punishment will apply, we don’t see that here,” he added.

He urged critics to allow the presidency to handle the matter internally, stating that there is already a resolve from the highest office to address the issue appropriately.

“I see the call by the Minority, honestly, to be baseless. The presidency is determined to deal with it, let us leave it as such,” Beyuo concluded.
