Bawku mediation report must bind all parties – Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has called for full compliance with the outcomes of the Bawku mediation process, insisting that the report submitted should be binding on all parties involved.

The Asantehene presented the mediation report to President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, December 16, as part of ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace to the area. He stressed that the process was strictly mediation and not arbitration.

“I am here to present the facts as they are so that we can achieve peace. I am not here to pass judgment on who is right or wrong. It was mediation, not arbitration, and the report should bind all of us,” he said.

Otumfuo expressed gratitude to President Mahama for the confidence placed in him to lead the peace process for the long-standing chieftaincy dispute.

President Mahama appointed the Asantehene earlier in 2025 to oversee mediation efforts aimed at resolving the decades-old conflict in Bawku.

The process formally began in April 2025, with separate engagements held with representatives of the opposing sides to lay the groundwork for dialogue.

After a brief suspension, the talks resumed in May 2025 and have since contributed to a period of relative calm in the Bawku municipality.
