Bawumia confirms Wontumi’s whereabout remains unknown

Former flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has confirmed that the whereabouts of Chairman Wontumi is unknown to his lawyers.

Chairman Wontumi was rushed out of the premises of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday night after several hours of interrogation.

His Lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, confirmed that he fell sick during the interrogation and had to be rushed to the hospital.

He was rushed out with several pickups.

However, a statement by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia suggests that the Ashanti Regional Chairman’s whereabout is currently not known.

“I am deeply concerned about the arrest and continued detention of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Wontumi), particularly as the charges remain vague, and his whereabouts remain unknown,” he said in a post shared via social media.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia urged state institutions to “act strictly within the bounds of the law and to respect the rights of Mr. Wontumi as guaranteed by our Constitution. Any deviation from these principles risks undermining public trust in our justice system and weakening the democratic values we have worked hard to build.”
