Bawumia cries foul over arrests of NPP members

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has accused the John Dramani Mahama-led administration of subjecting members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to harassment and persecution since the party’s exit from power.

Speaking during his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, September 10, Dr. Bawumia expressed concern over what he described as deliberate attempts by the current government to intimidate the opposition.

“We’re all witnesses to what is going on after we lost power.

“NDC is harassing, abusing, and persecuting us. Recently, they arrested Chairman Wontumi and Chairman Abronye,” Bawumia said, drawing loud cheers from his supporters.

He further alleged that the government’s crackdown extended beyond party executives, targeting ordinary NPP supporters active on social media.

“They have been arresting our bloggers, TikTokers, and our appointees. This shows that we need to unite to win the 2028 elections,” he added.

Bawumia, who is currently on a nationwide campaign to solidify his bid to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections, urged party faithful to close ranks, emphasizing that only a united front could ensure victory against the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
