Bawumia has been the most impactful Vice President in Ghana

The former Minister for Transport, Mr Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, has stated emphatically that the former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, had a tremendous impact as Vice President in Ghana’s history.

He strongly believes that Dr. Bawumia, who was Vice-President for eight years, has left a transformational legacy for Ghana, which many past Vice-Presidents were unable to achieve.

Mr. Ofori Asiamah disclosed that Dr. Bawumia spearheaded many transformational policies, which endeared the NPP Government to the public, mentioning, among other things; Zipline drones for delivery of medical supplies, digitisation of National Identity Card (Ghanacard), GhanaPay mobile wallet by banks among others.

He was speaking to MyNewsGh.com reporter, Hajia Asana Gordon during Dr. Bawumia’s two-day tour of  Central Region as part of his campaign ahead of 31st January 2026 New Patriotic Party(NPP) Presidential primaries.

“Bawumia has a gift to rule this country; that is why some us are following him… so we think that Dr. Bawumia will be a good President and has the experience to rule this country”. He justified.

Mr. Ofori Asiamah cautioned Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team members both constituency and region, not to insult any NPP presidential candidate in favor of Dr. Alhaji Bawumia.

“NPP needs unity to win power and not insults since Bawumia stands for unity and not insults so  Dr. Alhaji Bawumia’s campiagn team will not entertain politics of insult from Bawumia’s campaign team”.

The Chairman of the Communications Directorate of the NPP, Nana Akomea also described Dr. Alhaji Bawumia as the most experienced candidate among all the NPP presidential candidates.

“Dr. Alhaji Bawumia has been the running mate for eight years, Vice President for eight years, Acting President on several occasions and none of his (Dr. Bawumia) contenders can match the experience of Dr. Bawumia. Even though some of those contenders served as Ministers, MPs and board Chairmen, they cannot compare themselves to Acting President or Vice President,” Nana Akomea stated.

“If you look at the records of voting, Ghanaians hardly vote for fresh presidential candidates and every president who has handed over, handed over to the person who contested him, Kufuor contested Rawlings and he handed over to Kufuor, the late Prof Mills contested Kufuor and he handed over to Prof Mills and Prof Mills unfortunately passed and John Mahama came

He again continued that President John Dramani Mahama was contested by Akufo-Addo and ended up handing over to Akufo-Addo and Akufo-Addo again handed over to President Mahama and President Mahama again contested Dr.  Bawumia, so from the records, President Mahama will hand over to Dr Bawumia”. He gave the historical antecedent.

In view of this, Nana Akomea said delegates should not break the chain.

Nana Akomea observed that “normally Ghanaians don’t vote for fresh presidential candidates and Dr. Bawumia is the only candidate who will give NPP that advantage since governing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is bringing a fresh candidate.”
