Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama Constituency, Hon Francis Asenso-Boakye, has dismissed claims that New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters prefer Kennedy Agyapong over Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, saying recent polls indicate otherwise.
Speaking on Oyerepa TV, Hon. Asenso-Boakye referred to research by Musah Danquah, noting that both party delegates and the general electorate favour Dr. Bawumia. “Ignore the claims that Kennedy is the people’s choice. Musah Danquah’s poll has shown that Bawumia is the delegates’ choice and also the people’s choice,” he said.
The Bantama MP further emphasised that popular applause does not automatically translate into electoral success. “There are many people in rural areas who may not engage in political discourse, but they know Bawumia’s name,” he said.
He dismissed assertions suggesting that while NPP delegates support Dr. Bawumia, the general public prefers Ken Agyapong, calling it “political talk.” According to him, the findings from Musah Danquah’s polls, which show Dr. Bawumia leading, have faced backlash from other potential candidates, but the data remains clear.
“Ghanaians are familiar with Dr. Bawumia, and his recognition and credibility give him a significant advantage over other aspirants,” he added.
