Bawumia is the unifier NPP needs – Ayew Afriyie counters Ken Agyapong

Effiduase-Asokore MP, Dr. Ayew Afriyie, has pushed back strongly against former Assin Central lawmaker Kennedy Agyapong’s recent remarks questioning Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ability to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory.
Dr. Ayew said Agyapong should first explain the NPP’s poor showing in his home constituency before casting doubts on Bawumia’s chances.
“If nothing at all, Bawumiah ensured his constituency, Walewale, retained the seat for the NPP. What happened to Assin Central?” Dr. Ayew quizzed in an interview on a Kumasi-based radio station on Tuesday,
“Kennedy Agyapong says Bawumiah can’t secure power for the NPP, but you could not even retain Assin Central, your seat for the NPP. Even your home region; how did the party perform in the 2024 elections?”
Dr. Ayew further praised the Vice President’s calm and unifying approach during the NPP’s internal contests, contrasting it with the personal attacks Bawumia faced.
“Dr Bawumia has never insulted or cast a slur on any of the contenders although, on record, some of these contenders have either attacked his personality, his tribe or religion; but you see, as unifier as he is, he has maintained his composure and continued to preach unity, on the face of incessant provocation,” he said.
The Effiduase-Asokore MP expressed confidence that Bawumia is best placed to reposition the NPP for victory in the next election.
“Look, nothing is insurmountable. People have passed comments about staying in power for years, some decades, but what happened? The next moment, they were in opposition,” he argued.
“The Ghanaian people know what they want, and I am clear in my mind that Bawumiah’s time is up to lead the country.”
