Bawumia should go and rest – Agyepong campaign spokesperson advises

Paul Abdul Rahman Issah Dowuona, spokesperson for the presidential campaign team of Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, has called on former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to bow out of frontline politics, arguing that his contributions to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have already run their course.

“The Former Vice President has served the party for 16 years. He has done his best for the party.

“We think that he should go and rest. Ghanaians are still assessing his stewardship, and that was evident in the previous election,” Dowuona stated during an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, August 7.

He further emphasised that time would offer better judgment of Bawumia’s legacy in governance.

“He should go and take time, when Ing. Agyepong wins and we take power, after eight years, Ghanaians would have finished assessing him,” he added.

The remarks follow Kwabena Agyepong’s official collection of nomination forms on Wednesday, August 7, formally declaring his intention to contest for the NPP’s flagbearership.

Dowuona used the occasion to reiterate his firm belief in Agyepong’s credentials, describing him as a leader with “unmatched integrity, vision, and deep understanding of Ghana’s democratic principles.”

The NPP’s internal race continues to generate strong debate as party figures seek to shape its future direction ahead of the 2028 elections.
