Bawumia’s ‘we’ speech reflects collective accountability

Frederick Opare-Ansah, the Campaign Manager for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 presidential election, has responded to growing concerns about the former Vice President’s stance on the failings of the previous administration.
Speaking in an interview on Citi Prime News on Monday, April 28, Opare-Ansah emphasized that Dr. Bawumia has consistently acknowledged the shortcomings of the government he served, particularly in terms of public discontent.
Opare-Ansah pointed out that Dr. Bawumia, in all his speeches, frequently uses the pronoun “we,” underscoring the collective responsibility of the administration.
He explained, “In all his speeches, the pronoun that has been used most widely has been ‘we.’
He tells them that all research has shown that, including the research conducted by people who went to the base of the constituency level, at the polling stations, to interact with the people, and what they have found is that we didn’t listen to them while we were in government.”
The Campaign Manager also highlighted that the feedback from constituents was clear: the government had failed to listen to their concerns.
According to Opare-Ansah, people had voiced their dissatisfaction with various policies, including the controversial E-levy.
“They said we should reshuffle, but we did not reshuffle. He didn’t say you said Mr. A should reshuffle and Mr. A didn’t reshuffle.
He said you said you don’t like the E-levy, and we did not listen to you. We brought E-levy,” Opare-Ansah stated, stressing the importance of acknowledging public grievances.
