‘Before I leave this earth’ – Asamoah’s grim World Cup prediction for Africa

Former German striker Gerald Asamoah, who has Ghanaian roots, has shared his honest thoughts on Africa’s chances of winning the FIFA World Cup.
He believes it will be very difficult for an African country to lift the trophy any time soon.
Africa’s best performance came in 2022 when Morocco reached the semifinals but eventually lost to Croatia in the third-place playoff. Ghana and Senegal have also come close, reaching the quarterfinals in 2010 and 2002 respectively, but fell short of making history.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Asamoah said:
Former Germany striker Gerald Asamoah has cast doubt on Africa’s chances of winning a FIFA World Cup, citing team unity as a key issue. He shares details…
I want to see this before I leave the earth, but it is not going to be easy.

He explained further that the lack of unity in African teams is a major issue:
It is about teamwork, and this is a problem Africans have. We have always had some issues in the team.

Despite the talent on the continent, Asamoah believes these internal problems make it hard for African nations to compete with more organised sides from Europe and South America.
Road to 2026 World Cup
The next FIFA World Cup will take place in 2026 across the USA, Canada, and Mexico, and qualifiers are currently underway. The Black Stars are leading Group I with 15 points and are on track to qualify for the tournament.
With four games to go, Otto Addo’s side will hope to maintain their form by amassing maximum points in two home games and two away battles.
