Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to avoid divisive tactics in the party’s upcoming flagbearership contest, warning that internal attacks could damage the party’s chances in the 2028 general elections.
“When we bring down other people, we bring down the party,” Dr. Bawumia said, stressing the long-term consequences of negative campaigning.
“Our messages will be taken by our opponents, and they will use them against us.”
The Vice President made the remarks after receiving overwhelming support from NPP youth organisers, who picked up his nomination forms ahead of the party’s January 2026 presidential primary.
“I will not, and you will never hear me insulting any aspirants,” he pledged. “Because when this election is over, we have to contest a general election.
“And if we divide ourselves today, we will have difficulty in uniting for a general election tomorrow.
“So, let us begin the process with unity, and end with unity because that will bring victory in 2028.”
Bawumia’s call for unity comes as over 490 substantive and deputy youth organisers from across the country endorsed his candidacy, describing him as the leader most capable of securing victory for the NPP in the next national polls.
