Calls on NDC and NPP to walk away from Akwatia and Tamale Central by-elections respectively heightens

There are calls on the two leading political parties to agree and cancel the impending by-elections in Akwatia and Tamale Central.
Proponents of this believe that it is the noble thing to do, considering Ghana’s current circumstances.
They believe that the NDC must step aside in Akwatia while the NPP steps aside in Tamale Central in the Northern Region.
This was proposed by former Minister, Prince Hamid Armah and had the backing of making who believe that it is the right thing to do.
His post shared via social media read “Out of respect, NPP should step aside in Tamale Central. NDC should do same in Akwatia. Honour their memory with silence, not slogans. Politics can wait. Dignity cannot”.
He was backed by Kofi Bentil who argued that “I fully agree. There comes a time when ambition must give way to respect, honor, sacrifice and dignity.
I have already said many times that we should abolish bye-elections and avoid the cost and acrimony.
Under these circumstances it is even more noble and apposite that NPP steps aside and allows a smooth process to replace these fallen MPs who died in service to the nation.
Please please heed this call. It will win you a ton of goodwill”.
The Akwatia by-election slated for September 2, 2025 has become imperative after the death of the late Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi who died six months after winning the seat in the 2024 elections.
The NPP has since endorsed a candidate for the position who will be contesting in the election on September 2, 2025.
The NDC on August 4, 2025, elected a Parliamentary candidate in the person of Benard Bediako to represent the party in the election.
There is an impending by-election in Tamale Central as their member of parliament is part of the victims of the helicopter crash in Adansi in the Ashanti Region.
