Cause of August 6 helicopter crash revealed

The committee charged with investigating the August 6, helicopter crash have concluded their investigation.
The details of the investigation was presented to the president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama on Monday November 10, 2025.
Details of the crash is currently being presented by the committee to the media.
Presenting details of the cause of the crash on Tuesday November 11, 2025 the committee disclosed that the crash was caused by sudden loss of altitude and lift due to down draft.
They explained further that this loss of altitude without change in power or pitch attitude is consistent with downdraft associated with changing environmental conditions over high terrain.
The August 6 helicopter crash took the life of some notable government officials including two ministers of state, some appointees and personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Their sudden demise threw the nation into a state of mourning and sober reflection.
Explainer
It means that the investigation found the accident was due to a quick and unexpected drop in altitude and lift, which happened because of a “downdraft.” A downdraft is a fast downward movement of air that can push an aircraft towards the ground unexpectedly, especially when flying over high terrain.
In this incident, the aircraft lost altitude even though there was no change in engine power or the direction in which the aircraft’s nose was pointed (“pitch attitude”). This suggests that sudden changes in the environment, such as winds or air currents over hills or mountains, created the downdraft that caused the accident—not pilot error or mechanical failure.
