Celebrate Lumba like a legend – Kwabena Kwabena’s manager calls on Charterhouse

Nana Poku Ashis, the manager of highlife star Kwabena Kwabena, is calling for a national celebration to honour the late music legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba.

Ashis urged Charterhouse, organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), to spearhead the initiative. He believes the moment is right for Ghana’s creative industry to give Lumba a fitting tribute.

“The iconic Lumba needs a national celebration and I am urging Charterhouse to lead this campaign. Try and put together an event where we will have our stars come and honour the legend,” Ashis said in an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz

He proposed that before Daddy Lumba’s burial, a concert-style tribute should be held, similar to the performance setups at the Ghana Music Awards. He even suggested a lineup of younger acts performing Lumba’s classic hits to celebrate his timeless influence.

“Before his burial, we should do something of that sort where we see [maybe] a Fameye or Kwabena Kwabena perform a Lumba song just like they do at the Ghana Music Awards. Even if it is a paid event, I am sure it will be a sold-out event.”

Ashis also touched on the late singer’s untouchable status in Ghana’s entertainment space. He noted that while other artists faced backlash for politically themed songs, Lumba remained unscathed.

“He is that guy that could be with you now, the next moment he was with the other person. And nobody dared touch Lumba. Other people did political songs and they were touched but he did and nothing happened to him.”
