Cheddar’s performance in 2024 sends a message to the old guard — Elvis Darko

Seasoned journalist Elvis Darko believes Nana Kwame Bediako’s performance in the 2024 general elections signals a dramatic shift in Ghana’s political dynamics.

He said the success of the political newcomer, who secured 0.76 percent of total votes, underscores the public’s growing openness to fresh faces over entrenched political figures.

“Cheddar has never been part of our political system. Yet in his first attempt, he got 88,944 votes, while Alan Kyerematen, a man who has been part of politics for over three decades, managed only 32,457,” Darko said Speaking on Channel One TV monitored by MyNewsGh.

“That is telling.”He stressed that Cheddar’s relatively better performance shows that the old narratives about political popularity and name recognition no longer hold.

“For someone like Alan to be outperformed by a newcomer shows that Ghanaians are ready for something new,” he argued.

Darko suggested that young voters in particular resonated with Cheddar’s energy and unconventional message, something traditional politicians have failed to capture.

“It’s not just about policy anymore; it’s about identity, authenticity, and how young people see themselves reflected in leadership,” he concluded.
