Chief of Staff launches Committee for 2026 World Cup preparations

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has inaugurated an eleven-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to supervise Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The committee brings together officials from government ministries, security agencies, and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to ensure a coordinated national effort.

In his address, Mr. Debrah emphasized the importance of integrity and accountability. “All members must work with the highest levels of integrity and avoid actions that could bring the country’s name into disrepute on the international stage,” he said.

The committee is charged with providing strategic guidance, ensuring compliance with international standards, and supervising all preparations ahead of the tournament.

Chief of Staff Debrah urged members to approach their responsibilities with diligence and a commitment to excellence.

Key appointees include Stan Xoese Dogbe from the Office of the President, Hon. Kofi Adams of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Samuel O. Ablakwa of Foreign Affairs, Hon. George Opare of Youth Development, Deputy Ministers Yusif Jajah and Ampem Nyarkoh, GFA Chairman Kurt Okraku, Deputy National Security Coordinator Elizabeth Yankah, former footballer Abedi Pele, and Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah, Chief Director at the Sports Ministry.

The formation of the oversight committee marks a significant step in Ghana’s efforts to ensure a well-organised and successful participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
