CHRAJ petitioned to probe Sammy Gyamfi over alleged unexplained wealth

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has been petitioned to investigate allegations of corruption against Samuel Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board.

The petition, submitted by a citizen identified as Eric Dumenu Akatsi, calls on CHRAJ to invoke its powers under Article 218(e) of the 1992 Constitution to probe what the petitioner describes as conduct inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of a public official.

In his letter to CHRAJ Commissioner Joseph Whittal, Mr. Akatsi cited a widely circulated video that allegedly shows Mr. Gyamfi throwing U.S. dollar bills at evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah—popularly known as Agradaa—from his luxury Range Rover on May 10, 2025.

The petitioner argued that the act was “a clear indication of unexplained wealth” and claimed that Mr. Gyamfi operates two private accounts at Consolidated Bank Ghana—one in cedis and the other in dollars—with combined balances reportedly exceeding GHS 100 million.

“It is important to understand that, prior to his current position, these accounts never had the said substantial inflows,” the petition read.

“This, I contend, including the splashing of dollars, leads to the irresistible conclusion—supported by the accuracy of mathematics—that these are instances of suspected corruption.”

Mr. Akatsi said his actions were in fulfillment of his civic responsibility under Article 41(f) of the Constitution, urging CHRAJ to initiate a full investigation into the source of Mr. Gyamfi’s wealth.
