Citi FM pulls plug on live EPL broadcast after 18 years

Citi FM has officially announced the end of its live English Premier League (EPL) commentary broadcasts after 18 years of uninterrupted coverage.
In a statement signed by Managing Director Samuel Attah-Mensah, the station attributed the decision to a sharp rise in subscription costs.
“This has been a tough call for us, given our history and the loyalty of our listeners,” Mr. Attah-Mensah said.
“For 18 years, we have taken pride in bringing every kick, goal, and thrilling moment of the EPL to homes and offices across the country. Unfortunately, the current cost structure makes it unsustainable for us to continue.”
Since joining as a rebroadcast partner nearly two decades ago, Citi FM has aired almost every Premier League match, alongside FA Cup and League Cup games — a commitment that built a devoted listener base and reinforced the station’s reputation as a leader in sports broadcasting.
However, the 2025/26 EPL season, which kicks off this weekend, will not feature live commentary on Citi FM.
“We will no longer air live commentary,” the Managing Director confirmed. “But we remain committed to delivering high-quality sports coverage and will continue to provide in-depth news, analysis, and updates across all platforms.”
Mr. Attah-Mensah expressed gratitude to the station’s audience:
“We are deeply thankful to our listeners who have supported us all these years. Your passion has been the driving force behind our coverage.”
