Cloudy skies and possible thunderstorms across Ghana this evening

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has forecast mostly cloudy conditions across the country for Tuesday, May 21, 2025, with isolated thunderstorms expected later in the day.

In its 24-hour weather outlook, GMet indicated that mist or fog patches are likely to form during the early morning hours along the coast and in mountainous and forested areas.

This is expected to give way to sunny intervals as the day progresses, with occasional cloud development across all sectors.

However, GMet warns that isolated thunderstorms, with or without rainfall, are expected to affect parts of the coastal, middle, transitional, and northern belts from late afternoon into the evening.

Regional breakdown

  • Coastal areas such as Accra, Kasoa, Takoradi, and Cape Coast will experience a cloudy or misty morning, transitioning into sunny intervals. Takoradi and Axim may see thunderstorms in the evening with a 30% chance of rain.
  • Middle and forest zones including Kumasi, Obuasi, Koforidua, and Goaso are forecast to start with misty or partly cloudy skies, followed by sunny conditions. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely in several locations, including Akim Oda and Kete Krachi.
  • Northern regions, including Tamale, Yendi, Bolgatanga, Wa, and Bole, are expected to experience a mix of cloudy skies and sunny breaks, with scattered thunderstorms likely in the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures

Daytime temperatures are expected to be warm, with highs ranging from 31°C in coastal areas like Takoradi to 38°C in parts of the Upper East Region such as Bolgatanga and Nalerigu. Evening temperatures will generally drop into the mid-20s across most areas.

Marine conditions

GMet has also indicated that the state of the sea is rough, cautioning marine operators and coastal dwellers to take necessary precautions.
