Cloudy skies and thunderstorms expected in parts of Ghana today – GMet

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has forecasted cloudy conditions, rainfall, and possible thunderstorms across various parts of the country over the next 24 hours, with southern Ghana expected to experience the most significant weather activity.
In its latest update, GMet indicated that mostly cloudy skies will dominate the southern sector throughout the day.
Morning rains or thunderstorms are expected across the coastal and inland areas, including Accra, Takoradi, and Cape Coast. Early morning mist or fog patches are also likely to form, especially along the coast, forest zones, and mountainous regions.
As the day progresses, the southern part of the country will experience alternating periods of sunshine and cloudiness.
These conditions will lead to the development of rain-bearing clouds, which are expected to produce thunderstorms or rain across the coast, slightly north of the coastline, and the middle and transitional belts by the afternoon into the evening.
Notable areas such as Kasoa, Ho, Koforidua, and Kumasi are forecasted to experience thunderstorms or showers in the afternoon and evening. Cities like Axim and Takoradi could see sustained rainfall through the day, with up to a 40% chance of precipitation.
The northern half of the country will remain generally sunny, with only isolated cases of rain or thunderstorms. Cities such as Tamale, Yendi, and Bolgatanga are expected to stay largely dry but partly cloudy, with daytime temperatures climbing into the low to mid-30s°C.
Meanwhile, misty or foggy conditions will affect areas such as Goaso, Sunyani, and Techiman during the early morning hours, followed by sunshine during the day and potential evening rain in some locations.
Temperatures across the country will range between 25°C and 33°C, with southern areas generally cooler due to cloud cover and rainfall.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency has advised the public to take necessary precautions, especially in areas likely to be affected by thunderstorms and poor visibility due to mist or fog.
