Committee will prevent future attacks – Akandoh defends Ridge Hospital investigation

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has defended his decision to establish a committee to investigate the Ridge Hospital incident involving Ralph Saint Williams, also known as Ralph De Fellow Ghanaian

The Health Minister said the matter had two dimensions—alleged assault and alleged medical delays—and therefore required a broader probe.

“There has been an alleged assault, and then there has been an allegation of delay in attending to patients.

“The nurses or doctors may also have reasons. I am not, at this point, willing to go into triage or emergency processes—that’s why the committee is sitting,” Mr. Akandoh explained on Hot Issues with Keminni Amanor.

He said the committee, which was given one week to submit its report, would ensure the right lessons were learned.

“The most important aspect is to guide us to prevent the reoccurrence of a similar incident,” he stressed.

On doubts about whether the committee’s work would be effective, the Minister was firm: “We should wait and see. Whatever recommendations come up, we will implement them, especially those within my jurisdiction.”
