We’re not in crisis, we’re leading with solutions

Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor has taken a firm stance against recent suggestions that his commentary before Parliament amounted to grumbling, insisting that his remarks were rooted in transparent leadership and a commitment to solutions—not complaints.

“I understand grumbling very well, and I don’t think that when you appear before a committee and you present facts, they term that as grumbling. Unless, as a minister, I needed to hide that fact,” he told the Citi Breakfast Show, pushing back against what he sees as a mischaracterisation of his approach.

Jinapor’s remarks were in response to critiques following his appearance before a parliamentary committee, where he outlined the power sector’s operational realities and outlined efforts to stabilize supply.

While some interpreted his presentation as a lamentation of current challenges, the minister emphasized that acknowledging facts is part of responsible governance.

“The facts are that Karpowership threatened to shut down, and we resolved the matter; that is not grumbling, that is solving the problem. It is sitting around the table to find the solution,” he explained.

By detailing fuel stock levels, new energy infrastructure developments, and committee work on gas processing and ECG reforms, Jinapor argued that transparency should not be mistaken for weakness.

“We are not in crisis, we are doing fairly well. Yes, we have challenges, but that is why we were voted into power—to solve those challenges,” he stressed, rejecting any narrative that painted the energy ministry as overwhelmed or reactive.
